Fancy something crunchy?

This homemade granola is healthier than regular granola, since many store-bought crunchy granolas turn out to be loaded with sugar. Yet it's really easy to make your own granola. I only use all natural ingredients to make this crunchy topping - no hidden, refined sugars, nor unhealthy fats. Furthermore: This nutty granola is super tasty, customisable and very easy to make, so there's no excuse not to make it.

It mainly contains a selection of different types of nuts, which make a valuable contribution to a wholesome diet due to their nutrient composition.

Nuts and seeds reveal their full aroma only through careful roasting. This is done as part of a chemical reaction in which the protein and sugar components of the nut bind together.

Nevertheless, one should be careful not to roast them too hot, otherwise the polyunsaturated fatty acids will oxidize and the vitamins will be destroyed. They also taste better.

It goes great as a topping for all kinds of desserts, for breakfast, with yogurt, in a salad, or as a snack in between - the possibilities are endless. Time to get creative!

GRANOLA

INGREDIENTS

  • 800 g nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, Brazil nuts, almonds)

  • 1 handful of sunflower seeds

  • 1 handful of pumpkin seeds

  • a bit of salt

  • some maple syrup (alternatively coconut syrup)

HOW TO MAKE IT

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C.

  2. Grind the nuts in a food processor or chop them finely with a knife so that small pieces remain.

  3. Line a baking tray with baking paper and spread the chopped nuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds on it.

  4. Add a little salt to everything and drizzle a little maple syrup over it.

  5. Now mix everything well together and smooth it out.

  6. Roast the nuts in the oven for about 20 minutes, gently mixing the nuts every now and then so that they can roast evenly on all sides. Be careful not to burn them.

  7. Once the nuts have reached a nice golden color, remove from the oven, let cool and enjoy.
